ARE YOU WONDERING WHAT MUST-HAVE TOOLS YOU WILL NEED TO MAKE MANDALA’S?
Have you been wanting to make mandalas and not sure what tools you need. You may find you already have the tools on hand that I recommend and use for making mandalas. I will show you what I use and why I recommend having it..
TOOLS TO GET: Cricut Essential Tool Set – This is by far my first choice. I Love the paper cutter that comes with this set. If price is an issue right now, then I would suggest getting the Basic Tool Kit to start.
WHY YOU WANT IT – PAPER CUTTER : You will most likely be cutting a lot of cardstock. If you are anything like me you will also want to save those larger pieces of scrap paper that you didn’t use in your project. Having a nice sturdy cutter will help trim down and cut your cardstock. I like the Cricut Portable Timmer, 12″ for its ability to cut straight lines. I have had other paper trimmers before and could never figure out my my paper was never straight. Then I found this one. The trick was the blade. The guide on this trimmer keeps your blade straight. There is no wobbling as the blade sits on 2 rails and cuts down the center line every time..
WHY YOU WANT THE – TRUE CONTROL KNIFE : You will want this knife for the times when the cardstock doesn’t quite cut all the way through. This blade has a super sharp edge and doesn’t bend like it does in some other models. Plus it has a really nice comfortable handle.
WHY YOU WANT THE – SCRAPER TOOL : The scraper tool allows you to quickly and easily remove paper and cardstock from your mat. This is really helpful with all those little pieces that are left behind when you cut you mandalas out.
WHY YOU WANT THE – SPATULA TOOL: I will admit, at first I didn’t think I really needed this tool. I could just use my fingers to lift the edges of the paper off the cutting mat. Which you can. But once I started cutting intricate cuts this tool was a life saver for me. I was ripping and tearing paper until I figured this tool out. If you use the scraper tool to help nudge the small intricate cuts off your mat, you will find it one of your favorite tools. Plus your finger nails will thank you too!
WHY YOU WANT THE – WEEDING TOOL: You will most likely use this for other projects more than cutting mandalas, but it will help for pushing out some of the tiny piece’s that remain when you remove the cardstock from the mat.
WHY YOU WANT THE – SCISSORS: The scissors also surprised me. I love the small size. It hangs nicely on my board and doesn’t take up much space. It is really nice to have them close by. The blades are really sharp and the tip is small so that it makes it easier to make cuts in between things when you don’t have much space.
I hope that the list of tools above helps get you pointed in the right direction. You don’t need a lot of tools to make mandalas. However it is helpful to have a couple good tools to make your life and your project easier to make. There are so many tools it is hard to choose which ones you may or may not need. Hopefully the tools that I listed; the paper trimmer, knife blade tool, scraper tool, spatula tool, weeding tool and scissors get you off to a great start. I found these to be my go to tools and wanted to share them with you.
